Avian Flu: Pandemic Threat and the Global Response

On January 17th WAMU 88.5 FM and America Abroad Media will broadcast Avian Flu: Pandemic Threat and the Global Response. The one-hour documentary goes beyond the headlines to provide historical context and international perspective on this potential crisis. We'll examine the 1918-1919 flu pandemic, the Ford administration's response to the 1976 swine flu scare, America's dependence on the foreign supply of a flu vaccine, and the situation on the ground in the affected countries in East Asia.
