"Art Beat" with Stephanie Kaye - Thursday, November 22, 2007
Stephanie Kaye

November 22, 2007 - (Through Dec 30) In a world-premier holiday event, Arena Stage in southwest D.C. brings a reinvention of "A Christmas Carol" to the stage. Set in Washington, D.C., it brings to life the people, places and events occurring during a difficult time in America's history...the days following the bombing of Pearl Harbor. Audiences will get to peer back in time at the city, and how holidays are celebrated even in times of war. Showing continue through December 30th.

(Oct 27-Dec 1) Sink Sank Sunk - artist D. Billy's mixed-media work inspired by comic books, instruction manuals, and children's workbooks. Some of the scenes are self-contained on panels or paper; others creep right onto the gallery's walls, at the appropriately named "Transformer" Gallery on P Street in Northwest Washington through December 1st, and a talk-with-the-artist event next Saturday.

(Nov 26) Audiences will get a little closer to Shakespeare with the author of "Interred with their Bones," a novel by Harvard professor Jennifer Lee Carrell. She'll discus the book, parts of which take place in D.C.'s very own Folger Shakespeare Library, at - you guessed it! - the Folger Shakespeare Library at 7:30 p.m. Monday.

November 22, 2007 - Across the district, hundreds of volunteers at shelters, soup kitchens and religious organizations are serving thanksgiving meals to those in need. Staff from the Central Union Mission in Northwest Washington say they generally serve more than 200 people at their annual thanksgiving meal.
